“Fake Geek Girl” shaming is a terrible thing for the geek community. Geek girl band the Doubleclicks had a story to share, so they talked to over 200 geek girls, prominent nerds and creators around the world and asked them to submit their stories: about how they became geeks, how they have been challenged in their own community because of the way they look, and what message they’d like to give to the people who try to bully them out of their own hobby.
The goal of this video was to show those bullies that they aren’t doing anything good when they try to be the “bouncers” for the geek community—and to show support for the geeks around the world who want to feel safe and included in the fandoms and communities we’ve all made our home. Because there are no fake geeks, only real jerks.
